Description:
This hands-on course will provide the attendee with the skills to better evaluate and treat upper extremity conditions. This course will provide significant knowledge and skills allowing attendees to improve their ability to deal with those "tough to treat" conditions. The techniques learned will enable the attendee to make better evaluative and treatment decisions thereby providing speedier resolutions of problems and improved outcomes.
Specifically, the attendee will learn the direct and indirect influence of spinal rib and AC/SC dysfunction in relationship to peripheral pain through nerve irritation and mechanical dysfunction. A simple but thorough screening procedure will be provided that directs the clinician towards evaluation of central dysfunction when patient presents with peripheral symptoms.
A variety of treatment techniques will be presented and utilized by the attendees to restore normal movements from the spine to the wrist. Several procedures will be presented and utilized by the attendees to obtain normal improved functional movements to central areas.
Course is 80 percent hands-on. Attendees will be take home an increased ability to treat a variety of chronic conditions.

Alan Weismantel, PT
Alan Weismantel graduated form the University of Pennsylvania Physical Therapy School in 1967. His early career included proficiency in EMG/NCV studies and study and the clinical use of manipulation and mobilization techniques. In 1975 Mr. Weismantel was one of the first three Americans to pass the International Federation of Manual Therapy test. Through 1980 to 1985, he attended the Osteopathic School of Continuing Education at Michigan State University. During the 1990's he studied visceral mobilization techniques taught by European Osteopaths. Mr. Weismantel is licensed in Pennsylvania, Maryland and Texas. He's a member of the APTA, Orthopedic and Sports Medicine section and the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Therapists.
He has developed outstanding clinical techniques dealing with those "tough to treat" patients through the integration of 33 years of study and clinical experience. His presentation concentrates on the teaching in a "hands-on" environment. Limited class size provides for individual attention.

Objectives:
At the completion of the session, participant should be able to:
- Recognize the peripheral symptoms caused by/or influenced by central dysfunction.
- Perform a screening examination to identify the presence of central dysfunction.
- Evaluate positional dysfunction of T1-T4, ribs 1-4 and clavicle.
- Evaluate and treat the thorax viscera.
- Perform and prescribe exercises for the upper quarter.
- Evaluate proximal entrapments of peripheral nerves.
- Perform release techniques of T1-T4 and ribs 1-4.
- Perform release techniques for the area of the thoracic outlet.
- Perform release techniques for the area of the upper extremities.
